“So, the Word became human and made His home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen His glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.” John 1:14 (NLT)
In verse 1 we are told that the Word was there in the beginning. An in verse 14 it says the Word became human. Jesus is the Word and He was there in the beginning. He came as a human and was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And if we choose to believe in Him and accept Him, He gives us the right to become children of God. Jesus has always been and continues to be. It is Jesus who came, and it is because of His love and faithfulness that I can trust Him.
I need His “unfailing love and faithfulness” in my life. I need His love to sustain me, comfort me, ground me and embrace me. I need to know His love for me is beyond my understanding and it doesn’t change or waiver. He doesn’t love me any less or more based on my actions. He simply and complexly loves me. His love is unconditional irrevocable and unending.
His faithfulness goes far beyond anything I can know or comprehend. I can reflect on my life and can see where He has navigated, directed and protected my life. Life isn’t always fair. Complications, disappointments, uncertainties and tragedy have played out in my life. But even in the darkest moments, He was with me. I know that I know that I know He was with me, because without Him I’m not sure I would have survived. His presence brings peace that sustains me and strengthens me. I know it because I live it.
Thank you, Lord, for your unfailing love and faithfulness. I pray today for a continual reminder of how great your love for me is. I pray that I will not lose sight of your love for me. Keep me close and strengthen my trust in You. I pray for greater faith each day, so that no matter what I face, I trust that You are with me! Amen.
What is God speaking to you today through John 1? Share your thoughts in the comments below! I’m looking forward to reading your comments!
“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
John 1:5 ESV
This verse really speaks to me especially in this present time. I’m so grateful for the peace that comes with knowing that Jesus is that light!
“The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.”
John 1:9 ESV
No matter what I face, I can keep my focus on Jesus and feel His peace. He holds me in His arms and His love is unfailing! ❤️ I will follow His light… I will follow Him!
Amen Lisa! I am so thankful for Jesus and the Light He brings!
“But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.”
John 1:12
I love that he calls us his children. Relationships get so complicated as we get older but the bond between a father and child can be so sweet and innocent. When I watch my granddaughter with her father (they are so sweet together) I am reminded just how much infinitely more my Heavenly Father loves me!
Such a comforting reminder, we are His children!
As I was reading Chapter 1 I was intrigued with John the Baptist. He was a man on a mission. He understood what he was called to do and he did not waiver. He stood up to the government (Herod and wife) which eventually caused him to lose his life.
In today’s world, do I understand my mission??? Am I willing to stand up for Christ?? Even if it causes death? The opportunities are endless but sometimes I pause…..
I wonder what John the Baptist would be doing in 2020.
Yes, waht a great question!
John 1:3
“All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.”
This scripture is a constant reminder for me that all things were made through God. We just got back from the beach on vacation and as I looked out over the ocean each day, I saw God’s hand each time. I look at those things around me and wonder how people can deny that God made all of these wonderful spectacular things around us. You don’t have to look very far to see God’s hand. It’s there in everything. It’s also a reminder to me to slow down and see. See, God in the big picture.
Yes, His Majesty is everywhere! We just have to slow down and take it in!
John 1:17
For the law was given through Moses, grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
This scripture stood out to me today. A reminder of His grace today and truth is only found in Him.
I am so thankful for grace!
Verse 1:5 sticks out to me the most. NLT reads “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can NEVER extinguish it” (emphasis mine). No matter how dark or dismal it may seem, the light (Christ) is there, is here, with us and the darkness cannot put that light out. We have that hope, that promise, with us not matter what we are facing, no matter what we are going through. What a comforting thought to know that we are never alone. That Jesus is always with us, His arms wrapped around us or open wide waiting for us.
Amen! So thankful for the hope I have in Him!
“John replied in the words of Isaiah the prophet, “I am the voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way for the Lord.’ ””
John 1:23 NIV

This, I believed is what we the children of God should be confessing to this “crazy” world that we are living in!
We are His voice, just as John was.
I struggle w/ feeling like I can be “His voice,” but that’s just the subtle voice of the enemy! We are carefully & wonderfully made. Made in His image! We can do All that He has called us to do!!! We (I) just have to be willing & available! 😊
Thank you, a great reminder for me today! I pray that I can be His voice and not just more noise!
JOHN 1:10
“He was in the world, and tho the world was made through Him, the world didn’t recognize Him.”
How many times do we as believers fail to recognize Him? I know I fail to recognize Him at times. I fail to listen to Him speaking to me. I’m hesitant to do what I know I should.
Yes Patty, it can be so easy to get caught up in stuff and miss Him! I pray today that we will recognize and sense His presence more!

I believe we too can be that voice! And Lord knows this world needs to hear His voice! We just have to be available & willing!!!
I spent 3 hours a week from yesterday discussing creation and evolution with my 22 year old. I used Genesis 1 and John 1. We went back and forth. Finally he said, ” Mom, I can’t stop crying or shaking. I knew then the hook was in and set.
We talked again today as he drove back to college. He said, he had read the creation chapters and Jonh 1 several times. He said the past week he noticed more beauty in nature as he imagined being present when THE WORD spoke it all into existence. His focus verses in John were 1-5, 10-14.
Then Sunday’s sermon by Marcus Ellington was so on point! I told him how to find it, even though I did not see it up yesterday.
I love verses 1-5, bc it tells us more of the mystery of the Trinity. But verses 12-13 tell me I AM GOD’S CHILD by right from Christ bc I received Him!
And of course I love the “opening act”, John the Baptist. He was sure of his place, call, and purpose. He stood up to what I like to call the “hypocritical religious leaders.” He also was eager for his disciples to follow Jesus.
Also was at the beach last week. I was up everyday to watch the sunrise. This was my being still and listening to Him. Our alone time. I would praise Him for His beauty through out creation. As i walked on the beach, I realized how awesome and HUGE He is: His love, forgiveness, and patience towards me. I love Him more than I can express!
Amen! So thankful for the revelation your son is having! God is so good!
Wow!! Love this!! Thanks for sharing! xo Praying for your family! Here is the link for Marcus Ellington: https://www.abundantlifemooresville.org/sermon-8-30-20/.
Thanks Lisa!!!
My comment was stolen by me hitting the wrong something. My devotion was interrupted by my 6yr.old.He left me and went to his room.(yea!) He returned with the Bible that Miss Lisa had given to him at church. He got up in another chair, after getting a pen from me. I was so reminded of the scipture, when JESUS rebuked His deciples ,saying ,suffer the little children to come into ME. Coen was copping me! He has watched me for the last 3years reading my Bible and writing in my journal. Oh yes for those who don’t know me, Coen, is my great grandson. He is in the 1st grade ,homeschool three days , then two days in school.I love the book of John. The truth knowing the WORD in Genesis is the living WORD in John. Really throughout the Bible. Pray I do better tomorrow. Love you all. Leigh Stutts, aka, mamaleigh☺
.
Love this! You are leaving Him an amazing legacy! Keep it up Great Grandma!
Just as Jesus cleared the Temple and said “stop turning my Father’s house into a marketplace”, I am reminded that “my body is the temple of the Holy Spirit” (1 Corinthians 6:19). With this reminder, I know that I have to be mindful of what I allow to go on inside of me. Am I letting the things of this world (consumerism, anxiousness, strife, etc) reside in me or am I allowing the Father’s presence to create His atmosphere in me? I know that just as Jesus turned over tables in the Temple, He wants to turn over the sin in my life so that a “passion for God’s house (presence) will consume me” – v.17!
I’m praying that too, that His presence would consume me!!!! Thank you!!!
“The Word was in the world, and though God made the world through him, yet the world did not recognize him.”
John 1:10 GNB
30+ years ago I made my confirmation of faith to the Bishop of the Oakland Diocese. The name I chose was Elizabeth, mother of John the Baptist, for a couple of reasons. The first, was that she struggled with infertility and her prayers were answered. I was experiencing the same struggle and later my prayers would be answered as well. The second reason was that when Elizabeth was visited by Mary, not only did SHE recognize that she was in the presence of her Lord, but the child within her womb “lept for joy”. Both Elizabeth, and her unborn son recognized Jesus. I pray that when Jesus returns, I am not one who fails to recognize Him.
YES! Amen!!!
“The one who is the true light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.”
— John 1:9
Jesus is the light and He gives light to everyone. His light is for all. It’s just a matter of people receiving His light. It’s like handing some one a flashlight and then it’s their chance to turn it on. Why would we want to be in the dark with a flashlight?? And yet so many people are because they either don’t know there is a flashlight available or they don’t know the power it holds. Some don’t want the flashlight and refuse it. But our God gives opportunity for all to have the chance at light and life. And as a believer already, I have this light and can use it and walk in it everyday. I choose the light of Jesus today. To guide my path today. To help me see. To give me clarity and wisdom. To provide comfort and joy. I choose the light today.
Lord help my light to shine so that others see your light in me and are encouraged. Amen.
Amen!
It’s bee quite a week. Better to get started late then never…..
John 1:5 The light shines the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it. The word extinguish has different meanings such as, overcome, lay hold of, gain control of, apprehend, quench, snuff out, stifle, Thanks you Jesus, Your light can never be extinguished by the enemy satan. He has no stronghold over the light Jesus gives us. I really have needed this for this week.
Hey Lisa!!! Glad you have joined in!
